Digital Storytelling: Summer Camp
Does your 11-13 year old like to express their creativity on the computer? Are they full of stories, just waiting to get out? The digital storytelling camp encourages creative writing using animation tools to bring stories to life. Campers will create a website to share their work with family and friends.
For parents: Campers will learn the elements of good story telling, and work in groups to practice creative writing and storyboarding. All campers will receive web space to upload projects to their own website, which they will create during the course of the camp, as well as whatever software they will need.
Scratch - Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share your creations on the web. As young people create and share Scratch projects, they learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.
Alice - Alice allows students to immediately see how their animation programs run, enabling them to easily understand the relationship between the programming statements and the behavior of objects in their animation. By manipulating the objects in their virtual world, students gain experience with all the programming constructs typically taught in an introductory programming course.
For campers: Have fun creating digital stories together with friends! Learn how to storyboard like the pros in Hollywood and create interactive, animated movies that you can share with your friends. Each week of camp will focus on a different technique, including comics, 2D and 3D animation software.
